Shanghai University of Engineering Science, referred to as "Engineering University" for short, is one of the first batch of 665 and 438+0 pilot universities in the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" of the Ministry of Education. As one of the pilot universities of "Excellent Engineer Program" 12 in China, the supporting unit of the consulting research project of China Academy of Engineering, and the leading unit of the new engineering construction of local universities in China, it is a municipal university with mutual infiltration and coordinated development of multiple disciplines in Shanghai.

The school was established by Shanghai Jiaotong University Electromechanical Branch, East China Institute of Chemical Technology Branch (1984 merged into Shanghai Jiaotong University Electromechanical Branch) and East China Textile College Branch on 1978. 1985 With the approval of the Ministry of Education, Shanghai University of Engineering Science was established on the basis of the above institutions.

It was selected into the first batch of new engineering research and practice projects of the Ministry of Education, the Industry-University-Research Cooperative Education Project of the Ministry of Education, the National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program, the National College Students' Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Practice Base and the Shanghai Entrepreneurship Incubation Demonstration Base. He is a member of CDIO Engineering Education Alliance and a founding member of the Innovation Alliance of High-level Local Universities in the Yangtze River Delta.
