President Xu Aoao was born in February 1940 in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, an astronomer and a higher educator. Member of the 9th and 10th China People's Political Consultative Conference. 1962 graduated from the astronomy department of Nanjing University and stayed as a teacher. He has been engaged in the teaching and research of astronomy for a long time, as well as the teaching management of astronomy department and Nanjing University. He used to be a teaching assistant, lecturer, associate professor and vice president of the astronomy department of Nanjing University. After 1990, he became a professor, doctoral supervisor, provost and vice president of Nanjing University. He served as the second, third and fourth director of the Chinese Society of Space Science. He is currently a member of the China Committee of the International Space Research Committee, deputy director of the Physics and Astronomy Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, member of the Expert Committee on Teaching Quality Evaluation of Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education, vice president of the Cooperative Education Association of Industry-University-Research, China, and vice president of the Chinese Creative Society.

President Xu has been engaged in the teaching and scientific research of solar physics, space physics and plasma physics for many years. In particular, he has made many achievements in the study of solar activities, such as solar flares, sunspots, prominence and other moving objects, and is a famous astronomer.

1989- 1990, at the plasma and space science research center of the University of Alabama in the United States, as a senior visiting scholar, cooperated with American scientists in scientific research. Important research achievements have been made in the field of solar active region physics. Academic achievements include: publishing 2 academic monographs and nearly 100 papers in important academic journals at home and abroad. The scientific research achievements of physics in solar activity area won the second prize of scientific and technological progress of China Academy of Sciences, the second prize of scientific and technological progress of former State Education Commission and the third prize of national natural science.

President Xu presided over the teaching and enrollment of Nanjing University for nearly ten years, and made important contributions to the reform of education and teaching.
