According to the characteristics of college students in the new period, this paper probes into the effective ways and methods of integrating national defense education into the quality training of college students. Through the organic combination of national defense education and quality education, the ideological and moral quality and physical and mental health of college students are improved, and finally they become college students with morality, ideals, culture, courage and a sense of national mission in the new era.

Nowadays, the comprehensive national strength of all countries in the world is gradually increasing, and the competition among countries is intensifying day by day. Competition is reflected in science and technology, economy and talents. Improving the comprehensive quality of college students means improving the quality of future citizens. National defense education is an important link in the quality training of college students. Its main purpose is to enhance students' patriotism and sense of national mission.
1958, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China first stipulated that "military courses should be added and military training should be carried out in universities and middle schools". After that, most colleges and universities in China incorporated the course of national defense education, which combined military theory teaching with military training, into the undergraduate training plan, and national defense education really became a compulsory course for contemporary college students, which greatly promoted the quality training of college students in China.
First, national defense education in colleges and universities is of great significance to the quality training of college students.
National defense education is based on the needs of the survival and development of the country and the nation, to cultivate the patriotic feelings of all citizens in an organized, planned and purposeful manner, so that all citizens can establish the awareness of defending national security, safeguarding national sovereignty and enhancing national defense.
