Taiyuan University of Science and Technology, formerly known as Shanxi Machinery Manufacturing Industry School, was founded in 1952 and later renamed Taiyuan Institute of Heavy Machinery. In 2004, the school was renamed Taiyuan University of Science and Technology, and Shanxi Chemical Engineering School was merged into the school.
