The car is driving on the Chonghai Bridge from Shanghai to Jiangsu. Under the bridge is the rolling Yangtze River. The river is turbid, just like the air on the river, and it is gray. Our destination is Haimen, Jiangsu, about two hours' drive from Shanghai, with a population of more than one million.
Haimen looks unremarkable, but it is one of the experimental cities of Chinese mainland's civic education reform movement. The local education bureau cooperated with the New Education Foundation to promote the educational reform concept revealed by the "New Education Experiment" in the whole city.
