1. Move the cursor to the place where you want to insert the reference, and select Insert-Citation-Footnote and Endnote from the menu.
2. Select "endnote" in the dialog box, and "end of document" is suggested for the location. Select Arabic numerals in the numbering format.
3. After confirmation, insert a superscript "1" here, and the cursor will automatically jump to the end of the article, which is preceded by a superscript "1", which is where the first reference is entered.
4. Change the format of the superscript "1" at the end of the text to the required format (remember to change the format and re-enter it after it cannot be deleted, otherwise the reference will move in the future and the serial number will remain unchanged), and then enter the inserted reference after it.
5. Double-click "1" in front of the reference, and the cursor will return to the place where the reference was inserted in the article content, and you can continue to write the article. 6. Insert an endnote in the next place where you want to insert the reference again according to the above method, and a "2" will appear (Word has automatically sorted it for you), and continue to enter the reference to be inserted.
7. After quoting all the references, you will find that there is a short horizontal line in front of the first reference (which can only be seen in page view). If a spread is referenced, there will also be a long horizontal line in the spread. You cannot select or delete these rows. This is the sign of endnotes, but the format of general scientific papers cannot have such lines and must be deleted.
8. Switch to normal view and select View-Footnote from the menu. At this point, the edit field of the endnote appears at the bottom.
9. Select "Endnote Delimiter" from the drop-down menu on the right side of the endnote, and a short horizontal line will appear. Select and delete it.
10. Select "Endnote Continuation Delimiter" from the drop-down menu. This is a long horizontal line. Select and delete it.
1 1. Switch back to page view, and reference insertion has been completed. At this time, no matter how the article is changed, the references will be automatically arranged in order. If it is deleted, the following references will disappear automatically and there will be no errors.
