Large igneous province (LIPs) is the research direction of international geoscience in recent years.
LIPs refers to a continuous and huge magmatic formation composed of mafic volcanic rocks and related intrusive rocks. To a great extent, they are related to the mantle plume activity from the deep, and they are the direct products of mantle plume magmatism.
The latest research results divide the major igneous provinces into two categories: mafic major igneous provinces (MLIPs) and felsic major igneous provinces (SLIPs).
Future research directions include the relationship between the formation of large igneous provinces and mantle dynamics, as well as the relationship between continental proliferation, continental disintegration and extinction. In addition, it also includes the study of large igneous provinces and mineralization.
