Your urgent task now is to improve your Chinese. There is no direct connection between Chinese achievement and Chinese accomplishment. Take me for example, I don't think my Chinese literacy is very high, but my Chinese performance is very high. There are many ways to improve Chinese performance, such as reading a perfect composition in the college entrance examination, doing a real question in the college entrance examination, reciting famous sentences and basic knowledge. China people's performance will not be low. As for composition, it is much faster to buy a composition guide than to read prose. As long as you master the answering routine, the reading volume will not be low and the workload will be less (that's what I did in those years)
If you insist on improving your Chinese literacy (my suggestion is after you enter the university), my suggestion is to read poetry and prose. The most important thing is not language, but artistic conception, and then learn from literary literacy experts. This is a very difficult and arduous task. If you want to work in literature, you can try.
