Cross-cultural communication is an important branch or extension of communication. It was born in the United States in the late 1940s, and gradually developed into an independent discipline with a unique theoretical system in the late 1970s. Its research purport not only points to the characteristics and laws of communication between individuals, groups, organizations and countries under different cultural backgrounds, the interpretation and understanding of the meaning between different cultures, the process of creation, change and division of human culture, but also involves the differences between culture and national psychology, cross-cultural pragmatic research, cultural conflicts and solutions, the influence of technological development on culture, the continuation and change of culture, the control and management of communication, the self-reliance and development of national culture and many other aspects.

Cross-cultural communication here refers to interpersonal communication and information dissemination activities between members of society with different cultural backgrounds, and also involves the migration, diffusion and change of various cultural elements in the global society, and its influence on different groups, cultures, countries and even human beings. It mainly involves two levels of communication: first, cross-cultural communication in daily life, which mainly refers to the integration, contradiction, conflict and resolution of social members from different cultural backgrounds in daily communication, and so on; Secondly, cross-cultural communication at the level of human cultural communication mainly refers to the process and influence of communication and interaction between different cultures based on the differences of cultural systems, as well as the cultural integration, development and change determined by the cross-cultural communication process.
