There are less than two weeks before class is over and the final exam is over. After reading the English lecture notes all night after dinner, I have seen the doubts of life. I recall the state and rhythm of classes this semester, sum up some points, and give some practical suggestions to students who plan to study business abroad.
English teaching environment involves the following points: professor's accent, speech speed, the proportion of professional vocabulary, the amount of students' professional background knowledge reserve, and students' language ability. From our students' point of view, it is nothing more than input (what professors teach) and output (what students will use in case analysis, speeches, group discussions and even work in the future).
1. Weaning as soon as possible. No matter what the language level before going abroad, it is still somewhat uncomfortable to come to a new language environment for classes. Understandably, the only thing we can do is to adapt as soon as possible, instead of trying to escape and integrate into a strange environment as soon as possible.
It is really necessary to preview and review. The professional vocabulary involved in the course is definitely unfamiliar to you for the first time. Moreover, there are so many "polysemy" phenomena and a bunch of technical terms "I know all Chinese but I don't understand English" in English. If you don't preview in advance, it will be very unfavorable. In the process of preview, we can find some new words, concepts and ideas that are difficult to understand. After that, we can ask the teacher in class. The teacher is happy to answer the students' questions.
3. The correct way to open the pipeline. When we preview and review, we can search for courses and explanations of technical terms on tubing. A group of great gods made a small video of those boring management knowledge. All you have to do is search, click and watch.
Watching videos has the following advantages:
1) easy to understand, illustrated, no leakage. A short video of 3-5 minutes will explain a concept clearly. You don't need to learn by rote, just understand. It is more acceptable than reading textbooks and deeper papers.
2) Exercise listening. Watching video itself is an input process, and many previously unfamiliar expressions become more and more familiar with continuous input. Those unfamiliar words and language arrangements will get used to it after listening.
3) Save time. Compared with reading foreign language textbooks and documents systematically, the time spent is definitely much slower than watching videos. There are many ways to improve reading ability, but don't take finding professional textbooks as a way to reduce the input-output cost ratio. Business knowledge is like a pile of scattered parts in a warehouse. We don't need to memorize when using it, but we can solve practical problems through various combinations.
Objectively speaking, after all, it is a foreign language environment. Even in Chinese classes, we can't fully absorb 100%, let alone the English environment. It is impossible to make up for this natural gap without additional supplements. The same is true for making good use of the rich resources in oil pipelines at home, but it is better to stimulate people's ability to find solutions in this natural "opposite" environment abroad.
