Wu Haitao said that the Security Council resolution clearly stipulated that North Korea would use ballistic missile technology for launching activities. China expresses serious concern and opposition to North Korea's launch activities, and strongly urges North Korea to abide by relevant Security Council resolutions and stop taking actions that aggravate tension on the Korean Peninsula.
He said that the recent general stability on the Korean Peninsula has provided a "window period" for promoting political and diplomatic efforts. Unfortunately, this "window period" failed to translate into the resumption of dialogue and negotiations.
He said that China has always adhered to the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, persisted in maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula, persisted in solving problems through dialogue and consultation, and opposed wars and chaos on the peninsula, and made unremitting efforts to this end. China put forward the "double suspension" initiative of North Korea's suspension of nuclear guidance activities and the suspension of large-scale joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea, as well as the "two-track parallel" idea of realizing the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and establishing a peace mechanism on the peninsula. Russia has also put forward the idea of gradually solving the Korean Peninsula issue. On this basis, on July 4 this year, China and Russia issued a joint statement and formulated a "road map" to solve the Korean Peninsula issue. The Sino-Russian joint initiative is realistic and feasible, aiming at promoting the peaceful settlement of the nuclear issue on the peninsula and maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula. It is hoped that all parties concerned will respond and support it.
He said that under the current situation, the Security Council should shoulder its historical responsibility, promote comprehensive policies of all parties, solve problems through peaceful, diplomatic and political means, and safeguard peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. China will continue to fully and thoroughly implement the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and continue to work with relevant parties to play an active and constructive role in promoting the proper settlement of the nuclear issue on the peninsula and realizing the denuclearization and long-term stability of the peninsula at an early date. China expects all parties, especially the main parties, to make their own efforts, earnestly fulfill their commitments and play a constructive role.
