The PLA Naval University of Engineering, referred to as "Ocean University", is located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, which is known as the thoroughfare of nine provinces. It is a senior military academy under the leadership of the Central Military Commission and the Party Committee of the Navy. It is a national key university with work as the center, combination of production and management, technology integration, compatibility of arts and sciences, and distinctive naval characteristics. It is one of the five comprehensive universities built by the whole army and an open university. It is the military "2 1658".

The school's predecessor was Anton Naval School, which was founded in May of 1949 and later merged and upgraded to Naval Engineering College. 1999, the naval engineering college and the naval electronic engineering college merged to form the naval engineering university. The first undergraduate major, the first master's degree, the doctor's degree, the post-doctoral research station and the national key discipline of the navy all went to Ocean Engineering University.

By the end of 20 14, the school was divided into six jurisdictions, including Wuhan Headquarters and Tianjin Campus (Tianjin Service College), with a total area of 3,200 mu. There are nearly 600,000 Chinese and foreign paper books, more than 2.6 million electronic books and more than 0/000 paper periodicals.

Since its founding 70 years ago, it has trained nearly10,000 high-quality military talents for the navy, and nearly 100 people have grown into generals of the Republic of China known as the "cradle of naval officers", and trained foreign military talents for more than 40 countries in Asia, Africa, Oceania and Latin America.
