The Publication and Engraving of The Book of Rites
Because Sun Xidan died at the age of 49, "the official is just Hanlin, and the book is not exhausted, and learning is useless." Therefore, although his contemporaries knew that he was good at three rites, he had never seen his books and periodicals, so he was forgotten by later generations. Fortunately, Sun Shi's brothers published and distributed his book. Sun Yirang (1817-1901)' s uncle Sun Qiangming (1848- 1908) carefully proofread the manuscript of The Book of Rites and wrote a preface to explain the source. * * * Together with his brother Sun (Sun Yirang's father), he organized and printed The Book of Rites. According to Sun's preface, Xiang Qi's postscript, Sun's chronicle and other materials, the arrangement and printing of The Book of Rites are roughly as follows: During the 13th and 14th years of Daoguang (A.D. 1833- 1834), Sun's two uncles were Xiang Jishan (65438). Xiang Jishan carefully corrected the first ten volumes and copied them again. In the third year of Xianfeng (1853), Sun Congyue went back to his hometown for group training. Get the manuscript from Sun Yukun, Sun Xidan's great grandson. "The first ten volumes, Mr Hill fine school, hidden in the mirror. The rest is Zhu Mo's miscellaneous rubs, and the dispute with Yi Tu is correct. Although it is easy to cover the manuscript, there are still many additions and changes. In the meantime, paper-cutting has been woven off for a long time and often takes its place. Mr. Naisuo's Notes on Three Rites and Wei's Notes on Collections were written word for word in Yukun Institute. Huang Dan has been biased, and the collation refutes the correct theory. The notes are complete at the short end. " Sun Qiangming took the manuscripts of The Book of Rites, Three Notes on The Book of Rites and The Book of Rites studied by Sun Xidan, and used Sun Xidan's eyebrows to proofread the manuscripts of The Book of Rites for reference. A year later, the editing and proofreading completed the draft of Book of Rites 6 1. In June of the tenth year of Xianfeng (1860), Sun and Sun organized sculpture, just halfway through, which coincided with the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement. In the 11th year of Xianfeng (AD 186 1 September 24th), on August 20th, the Rebels burned Sun's house in Anyibao, Rui 'an, Zhejiang, and five or six of the ten prints were burned. After a supplement, it was not carved until March of the seventh year of Tongzhi (1868). At that time, it was 84 years since Sun Xidan died. As can be seen, The Book of Rites has 6 1 volume. First, the first ten volumes were carefully proofread by several mountains, and then Sun's three years in Xianfeng (1853) were comprehensively proofread, collated and copied, and finally finalized. In June of the tenth year of Xianfeng (1860), the Sun Shi brothers began to engrave books, and they didn't finish engraving books until March of the seventh year of Tongzhi (1868), which lasted for eight years.
